One of the worst nicknames a poker player can get is Fish. The fish is the worst player at the table, and the best find a shark can hope for. If you play ring games and tournaments, you need to know what turn a player into a fish, and how you can avoid being one. Once you’ve got that part covered, you can move to phase two: how to spot a fish and what’s in it for you 😉
How to Spot a Fish
Ulliott (1 April 1954 – 6 April 2015), known by the nickname Devilfish, was an English professional gambler and poker player. Formerly, Ulliott was a minor figure in the Hull underworld, but.
Fish and chips go together great, until it comes to the poker table, where they part ways quite quickly. The fish is a bad player and every shark’s dream because he loses a lot of money due to poor decisions and bad play moves.
- Poker On average, players will be rewarded 100 Fish Buffet points for every $1 paid in rake and fees. This value may vary based on a variety of factors, such as but not limited to, game type or tournament.
- Fish Poker Pops is a varient of Waldough appearing in the game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Fish Poker Popses are members of the Snowmads.
Nothing screams fish like check-call. The check-call is a dubious play strategy where the player checks whenever possible, or otherwise calls, but never raises. This is how the fish earned the nickname Calling Station. The problem with the check-call is that it makes you a predictable player, and that’s never a good tactic in poker.
The second trait of the fish is pursuing hopeless hands – they look like the start of something or a low pair, and the deluded player keeps pouring into the pot while he’ll never be the one to gulp it. The fish plays loose, calling and calling even on hands that aren’t worth the effort.
A great example is a pair of Jacks, that hole card that earned the name Fishhooks, and not only because this letter really resembles a fishing hook, but because it sends a fish spinning for low bait. Pursuing low pairs is not profitable for the long run, but the fish works his little fin off chasing down these hands nonetheless. Another example for a bad hand to chase is AK, nowadays called Anna Kournikova – looks good, but no grand slam trophy in that future. When it comes to this type of hands, the fish doesn’t know when to fold, and he calls his way thru the flop and the turn hoping to make it on the river.
How Not to Be a Fish
An excellent poker proverb says that if you can’t spot the fish at your table within 3 hands than it’s probably you. Make it a rule of thumb to check yourself: every good poker software features statistics for each game where you can see your number and percentage of wins, calls, raises, and folds. This is the best way to detect and destroy your inner-fish.
If you’re losing money it’s time to lose bad habits: If all you do is call, than you are a passive player and walking shark food. Constant calls is a tell that your hand is weak and that you’re just hanging on for the ride. If your not confident about your hand, why waist money pursuing it? If it is strong, why shy away? You need to raise to make sure there’s enough money in the pot when you sweep it!
How to keep the hook out of your mouth? You need to know when to fold. Check out Texas Hold’em Tournaments Tips for more on that.
What’s In It for You?
The fish bleeds his chips awfully fast, and wherever you can sniff blood, you’ll find a shark. If you’re lucky enough to sit with a fish (or smart enough to spot him as one) you can use his habits against him.
You know that the fish will be checking as much as he can to get a free ride to the turn, so if you’ve got the hand, always raise, to make him call instead of check. Keep raising (moderately, you don’t want to scare him off), because he’s likely to call your raises.

Fish Poker is a new Chinese application added to our menu at the end of spring 2019. The application has been working since last year but the access was very private so far. It works on the same principles as PokerMaster and other dozens of poker apps from the Asian country.
The games are played at private clubs where the tables are created for a certain period and using an internal currency which is given the value of 1 CNY. Given the fact that Fish Poker is new on the market, it is characterized for having a more advanced software and being reg-free at the moment.
Worldpokerdeals is one of the few affiliates working with Fish Poker for the overseas market. The poker room is growing, and the number of soft clubs available is getting larger every day.

At the moment of writing this review (May 2019), all the traffic at Fish Poker is concentrated at NLH tables in 8/9-max format. There are many clubs in Fish Poker, but they all have in common that they don't have lots of traffic, which is good for keeping the lineups soft; according to the room rules, one club can't have more than 1,200 players.
During the Chinese peak traffic (American mornings or early evenings in Europe), usually 10-12 tables can be found at 2/4, 3/6, and 5/10 stakes (NL60-NL150); we have spotted higher stakes, but the action is not regular. Usually, the playing time is 4-6 hours.
If you sit at a table, you must play at least 60 hands. This rule applies to all Fish Poker players including Worldpokerdeals ones. All the tables have ante and straddle.
Many Fish Poker clubs host daily tournaments with buy-ins starting at $50.
The Fish Poker client is available in English, although is not 100% translated yet, and it's very similar to other Chinese poker rooms. The menu at the bottom gives access to the table in the lobby, club list, account settings, and game statistics.
The filter button is located above the 'Me' menu and allows you to select tables by format, stake, and players.
In the lobby, all information is available at one glance, including stake, players, and remaining game time.
The players can adjust the bet sizing, change the deck (including a 4-color one), table theme and other customization options directly at the tables. Vertical or horizontal table alignment can be changed too.
Our players will receive a special discount to acquire a hand converter which enables HUD at the Fish Poker tables.
All transactions at Fish Poker are processed by our agency using the most accepted payment systems (Skrill, Neteller, ecoPayz); Bitcoins are also supported.
We cannot offer money guarantees at Fish Poker; therefore, we recommend our players to keep the minimum necessary amount of money at the room.
As usual, a small fee is applied to all profit withdrawals at Fish Poker. Our support team will confirm the withdrawal fee when requesting accounts.
Fish Poker is currently one of the weakest online poker rooms with low to mid-stakes action at 8/9-max tables. We recommend Fish Poker to bumhunters looking for weak lineups on the Chinese market.
As we cannot offer money guarantees, we ask our players to consider the risks before playing at Fish Poker carefully.
